Memorizing Scripture is an important part of our Christian faith. Unfortunately, we often do not spend time memorizing Scripture like we should. It may be time, it may be forgetting to study, it may be a lack of determination. Whatever your reason Bible Memory for the iPhone can be the tool that will help you stay on track to memorize Scripture consistently.
How it works!
I am impressed with the features Bible Memory offers especially as a first release. The folks behind this app have brought to the iPhone a well thought out system to memorizing Scripture. Using a combination of reviews, missing word quizzes, and an accountability option, you work towards memorizing each verse.
Bible Memory gives you 265 verses to memorize and several categorizes each of them to help build your faith. Unfortunately though, you cannot add your own verses or categories in this version. However, the built-in verses and categories are not just some random or commonly memorized verses. You can tell that some thought and time went into choosing these.
To memorize a verse, you begin memorizing each verse by reading the entire verse. As you become more familiar with the verse, you can proceed to the next step where you focus on sections of the verse. At the last step, you take a missing words quiz 3 times. Using a rotary style list, you choose the correct words. A correct word will be highlighted in green while an incorrect word is highlighted in red.
Each time you start the app, you are presented with an overview of your progress. This overview shows your progress by percentage, number of verses completed, and by category. Bible Memory will review your memorized verses to ensure you don't forget what you memorized. Another way Bible Memory works to strengthen your faith. The app will also rate your retention of the verses giving you a goal to work towards.
Two best features of Bible Memory
Probably the two best features of Bible Memory is being able to have study buddies and daily notifications. The study buddy feature can help you stay accountable to other people and share your progress with them. You simply add their email address from your contacts to your study buddy list. Having a daily notification reminds you to work on your verses. The notification does not make a sound only an on screen alert. To make this really useful it needs to send a notification with sound.
Future features I’d like to see
Some improvements I'd like to see are more variety of words missing in the quizzes. Often the end of the verses remain more visible then the beginning of the verses. It may just be me here! I already mentioned being able to add your own verses. This would help with my personal studies, my kids Master Club verses, and so on.
Conclusion
Bible Memory offers a full system to help you memorize the Word of God. With notifications, an accountability system, and review quizzes, Bible Memory gives you the best opportunity to succeed and retain what you have memorized. You may also find your self being an encouragement to someone else!
