Music Review: Reflections on a Journey by Greg Howlett
Everywhere you go you cannot avoid hearing music. It maybe in the grocery store, restaurant, doctor’s office, or at the mall. Wherever you might be, most often music is playing in the background. Whatever your preference is for music, it ought to be Godly, up lifting, and Christ-honoring. My belief is Christian music should be different than the world’s music. In this review, we take a look at a CD that most definitely has these mentioned qualities.
Reflections on a Journey by Greg Howlett
The refreshing piano arrangements are the first thing I noticed in Reflections on a Journey. They were easy to listen to and did not mask the traditional hymns we are used to hearing, but still offered an updated song. I have listened to the CD several times in my car, my MacBook, and my iPhone and it has been a blessing to me.
In his about page, Greg describes the intent of his music.
“Greg believes strongly that his music should reflect more than just technical ability. Because his music is Christian, he believes it primarily should communicate the nature of God. He often says that his job is not to impress people-- it is to affect them in a very deep and emotional way.”
Clearly, this Reflections on a Journey does this. It truly reminds one of the hand of God working in our lives throughout this journey on earth. I really appreciated “His Eye is on the Sparrow” as for me personally this year has proven to be quite challenging.
The CD includes ten tracks with a total of 42.5 minutes. The songs included on the CD are: The Love of God, Count Your Blessings, My Jesus I Love Thee, His Eye is on the Sparrow, Have You any Room for Jesus?, Does Jesus Care?, Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus, Breathe on Me, Jesus Is All the World to Me, and Near to the Heart of God.
You can listen to samples of the music here.
A bit of background...

CD Bonus Feature
When people play listen to music on their iPods, CD players, or other portable media devices, I do not think for a moment that they consider the amount of work it took to record that CD or track. On Reflections on a Journey, a bonus feature is included that allows you to get a behind the scenes look to the recorded process. In order to view this feature, you must use your PC or Mac computer. It’s a wonderful testimony from a talented musician.
Conclusion
I’m always nervous about purchasing music because I very much prefer the traditional music over the CCM style of today and don’t like the surprises I get with a 30 second clip preview. However, Reflections on a Journey creatively arranges hymns in way that uplifts and encourages the Christian despite their trying times. I’d highly recommend this CD for your music collection or for someone you know who is going thru a difficult time in their lives.
